Sunset 27 June 2021 - CONSUELA TANASA
Such a unique experience! My vigil was quiet and peaceful during a lovely sunset. There was so much to see and enjoy and you almost feel like you’re floating on top of the city.

I started off thinking how proud I am to be from this beautiful city. It looks so green and the Humber so blue on this fine evening

No “Sun Rise” as such, just various shades of grey and blue growing lighter as the Vigil progressed. But a line of “brightness” to the east in the general direction of Hornsea. Just grey to the west.

Oh, what a great privilege to have participated in UK’s first monumental performance; #TheHullVigil.

What a privilege to watch the city of my birth slowly wake! To take time to breathe and take in the familiar sights. The buildings and streets ever-changing but at their heart the streets I have travelled constantly through my life.

Looking over Queen’s Gardens, I felt echoes of all the events I’d experienced there. The angels flying from my vantage point in 2016 in our first taste of what was to come with the city of culture.

At first I was restless wanting to look at everything across the city through both windows – and see the city I grew up in and is my home.

I understood why The Hull Vigil is a work of art. I felt like I was looking at a painting of a circular microcosm of the world. But the painting wasn’t still.

WOW, WOW, Flippin’ WOW!!
Just love my city and having the opportunity to do the Vigil is amazing. Thanks for the opportunity.

The first thing I noticed was the noise. Don’t know why, but I was expecting it to be so much quieter. Also – insects. Again, don’t know why I thought there wouldn’t be any up this high but there were plenty.

What a different experience, away from everyone and yet to observe the goings on.

I am so happy and grateful for this experience. It has been cloudy all day and I fully expected it to be less dramatic than it could be, but as I stepped out the clouds had lifted and I was blessed with the most glorious sunset I could have wished for.

Summer Solstice. Blessed with an incredible sunrise. The sky was on fire.
My mind was racing; my family past and present; from my Grandad who worked on the docks (Benji) to my Mum’s Dad (Walt) worked at Turner’s (Everything But The Girl) – miss them. My Mum passed away at 50 (Pat).

As the sun sets on Fathers Day . . .

I live with bipolar disorder which results in me having manic episodes especially in the Spring and Summer. I sleep very little at this time of year and I’m always looking for things to do during the early hours.

After a very difficult year, I wanted to feel connected after feeling emotionally disconnected. My vigil of watching over my city was peaceful and allowed for reflection and began to feel some connection.

My first thoughts as I entered the box were, ‘WOW! Queen’s Gardens looks so clean.’ Smiling at myself I then settle into my ‘Watch’. Looking over at Wilberforce I felt like he was going to turn around and smile.

A wet and miserable Friday night staring out over the city, only a pair of seagulls for company, not exactly an average evening that’s for sure.

I really appreciate Hull now! The clash of architectural styles, the irregular designs, the individuality of every spare inch.
