Sunset 14 December - Helen Cooper
I was lucky enough to see a wonderful red sunset with some blue sky as the dark clouds cleared away. I’ve never felt the Maritime location of the city so strongly.

Very misty, but eventually the Guildhall Tower and Venn Bridge emerged and then, as daylight appeared, the Maritime Museum appeared and the River Hull.

I couldn’t stop looking at everything over and over. It has been grey and damp out there and I didn’t once manage a glimpse of the sun but it was so atmospheric.

It was interesting seeing various places from high up and recognising buildings from a different viewpoint. I enjoyed going from window to window and seeing the light change as the day began.

Arrived on a beautifully clear winter’s afternoon. Was a little bit transfixed at first when I saw where I was in relation to William Wilberforce and was able to share his view of the city.

Hull is of many dimensions and proportions and I have been blessed with the opportunity to amalgamate much of it into this one awe-inspiring experience.
14/01/22
What an experience that was! Thank you so much for the opportunity to take part. The time in the Pod, contrary to how I thought it would be, flew by.

Such a privilege to be able to view our beautiful city from a perspective not many people get to see. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I was lucky to get a sunny and dry morning.

The noise of the seagulls still makes me happy even after 25 years. As the blazing sun gave way to a sparkling half moon my time was suddenly up.

Birds fly high keep vigil on a city awakening
Traffic moves busy, slow
Buildings like Lego

What I didn’t expect to see was the River Hull looking so insignificant. I remember almost being late for work on numerous occasions in the 70s because one or both of the bridges ‘were up’ to let the river traffic through.

I didn’t have any expectations before I entered the Vigil but I found myself thinking how everyone’s morning was.

A unique experience and wonderful to be part of the Vigil. I was disappointed to leave after my hour which passed so quickly.
13/01/22
As I watched the sun rising I realised I had never seen a full sunrise before. It made me think about how easy it is to overlook new beginnings – and about the beauty of a new day – and fresh starts.
13/01/22
Brilliant experience. So lovely to be in my own thought for an hour, I never do that!
13/01/22
I saw the sunrise from the box. I enjoyed the beautiful nature of Queen’s Gardens. I feel happy. I think about the future.
13/01/22
The longer I stood, the more I thought about how my work connects me to this wonderful city – I could see silhouettes of vehicles passing over the Humber Bridge, how closely our city is connected to the water and how beautiful the historic buildings are.

Just completed my Vigil. It was the most amazing experience. Silent thought-provoking joy. I loved every minute.
13/01/22
Spent the first 20 minutes looking across the city seeing it in a new perspective. Things aren’t in the direction you imagine them to be. You also realise just how beautiful the city really is.

A magical experience. Thank you very much. The time was irrelevant, only marked by a constant drip of water which mimicked a ticking clock.
