. I felt very fortunate to be able to witness the start to this beautiful day without the distractions of modern life and just let my mind wander, listening to the birds, seagulls and the gentle hum of a new day starting.

I never thought that this day would come and that I would be a part of this truly amazing project, and here I am writing this after just completing my sunrise vigil.

As I look around I can see in many areas how the city is building and connecting the past to inform the future. Also remembering my past family who came to Hull in the 1800s as immigrants from Ireland and my own family who love Hull as much as I do!

The stories that are more personal, picking out the University buildings near where I grew up, Lowgate Post Office where my Dad worked and remembering the stories my Grandad told of when Queen’s Dock became Queen’s Gardens.

I asked the Sun, the Universe, the God and all the Angels of the world to STOP the war, murders and violence in Ukraine.

And then the other side – the west side window – the darkness started changing to lights as the sun rose; you could see the balance changing and then you could see the world waking up, people coming out.

Unique perspective of the city, spotted lots of buildings I never knew existed, the hour passed a lot quicker than expected, so much to see as the city came to life.

Memories of my time at College, spending many hours on Queen’s Gardens with friends came flooding back. Then to be interrupted by seagulls playing on the roof made me smile.

At first I felt uncomfortable stepping close to the window but by the end I was leaning up against it trying to see as far and wide as possible.

Buses came together on Drypool Bridge, observed: joggers, a rainbow, wind and sleet, cyclists, mobile scooter, people walking, the build-up of traffic as the city awoke to the wind and rain and sleet and now sunshine.

I felt incredibly lucky with the weather and the sky was absolutely beautiful. Realising the size of the city from up there was really something and the amount of people in it that make this city great.

Just make me so happy and I decided to make nice life for my future because that was really interesting and gave to me power that I hadn’t in my life and sunrise was really lovely and nice.

Seagulls floating, zooming, ever watchful, pigeons struggling in the wind, ducks waddling in Queen’s Gardens, geese searching the water for last tidbits of the day, HULL Birds from above.

I am a stand-up comedian and, when practising my gigs, I often get distracted and doing my vigil I thought would help me to not be distracted by anything but I was wrong; I was distracted by the marvellous views surrounding me as I tried to figure out what each building was.

Just watched over the city, moved from light to darkness. Was like looking down on a matchbox city. Seemed smaller but was hazy and not sunny.
