And, of course, the genuine quickening of my pulse when my own leading lady made a cameo appearance down below. So, so lucky that in this city of thousands we call home, she is mine and I am hers.

Taking an hour out of ‘life’ to just stand there and look at the city gave me an overriding sense of pride.

I thought of the Air Raid Wardens from WWII, scanning the horizon for enemy planes. Protecting the city.

As I arrived the city looked grey but wasn’t long before the sun started to peep on the horizon.

Compared to earlier in the week when I thought I would need wellies – the sun shone – and I had to put on the sunglasses!

It felt optimistic to choose to watch the dawn of a new day but unexpectedly the moon was the main event.

I took in the skyline of the different buildings and Queen’s Gardens, how different this will look once the work is finished but still, the great man himself, William Wilberforce, will stand guard.

From Companion to Vigil with only a few hours’ notice I wondered how different it would feel from when I first did the Vigil.
