A joy to witness day turning to night from such a vantage point

Glorious to see the sunrise, cloud and haze gives hues from red to blue, more like the sunrise on old sci-fi film of Mars the red planet.

It was a privilege to be able to look down on my city, a city I have lived in for more than seven decades.
20/06/21
My day of birth!
Took a while for my brain to quieten down but it did eventually.
01/06/21
In a time and age where ‘free time’ is something as a luxury, having an hour to stop and think of the past, present and future is very special.
01/06/21
Brilliant! Very cloudy and misty – so no sun seen for ages. East side of city seemed more awake than the centre. Reminded me of ‘Under Milk Wood’.

I’m so lucky I don’t get hangovers. And I say that due to last night, meeting up with old and newish friends to sit in the rain (which we’re all totally OK with now it seems) to drink, talk, catch up and mainly laugh. Man, last night we laughed so, so much.

Fantastic opportunity to see the city wake up and watch the light change.
01/06/21
Stand still, listen. The humm of the passing cars as the city is getting ready for its slumber. What a treat for the eyes! To see the ferry sail away to our pals across Europe.

In the box I thought about the people in Hull who’ve held me in their hearts in what has been a really difficult year for me.
01/06/21
Our city. All its history, culture, architecture, lights, movements and people all together from one view. The history it represents and the change it has gone through, and continues to do so.

There was no particular thing that motivated me to do the vigil so I didn’t have any preconceptions or expectations. It sounded interesting. Awake at a time and a place quite unusual.
01/06/21
There was a great contrast between East and West. The ever-changing clouds in the West and the almost dormant East.
01/06/21
I feel quite proud to be doing this vigil. Looking out at the sun’s rays did feel quite spiritual but I felt it was bringing the city to life
01/06/21
I used to believe that Hull was like a box you had to escape from.
01/06/21
I initially signed up to be a Vigil quite simply to take advantage of the wonderful view across my adopted home of Hull. As an incomer I’ve grown to develop a love of the city, its history and its architecture.
01/06/21
Well, I thought I knew what I’d see but I was wrong. I thought I knew Hull but I was wrong. Fascinating is not the word. I said, “Wow,” to myself more times than I can remember.
01/06/21
I can’t say I had any lofty thoughts but it gave me a fresh perspective on the city I love – a living canvas.
31/05/21
Standing just below the low, heavy, dark clouds I wasn’t expecting the most spectacular sunset – nor the most bustling of cities on a cool Sunday evening. But despite my reservations, there was something worth seeing on both counts.
31/05/21
The city is torn, undecided whether it wants to hold on to its cobbled streets and Gregorian houses or whether it wants to be a pioneer of green technology. Siemens will be this city’s legacy, I’m sure of it.
