Sunset 24 December - Philip Treble
Christmas Eve: All is calm. Merry Christmas Hull.

As the light increased, and as I stood and watched, I noticed more and more, even in the last minute of the vigil I saw new things.
18/01/22
The rain subsided and as lights were being turned on, the city seemed to wake from slumber. Was an interesting experience.
18/01/22
Not what I expected for a sunrise, the clouds December grey lifted to light blue, not the flash of orange I had thought it might be. The changes were subtle.
18/01/22
I gaze over the east side and then to west,
I watched over you, to keep you safe, I did my best.

Sunrise on a cold, frosty morning, watching the city wake up. Outstanding.
It was a real privilege to experience this.
18/01/22
The city was much quieter than I expected, especially so close to Christmas, and I suppose that the Covid virus has made so many people very fearful of coming into the City.
18/01/22
I wonder if all those people I saw in my hour knew that someone stood, keeping watch over them and the city as the sun rose to usher in the end of the longest night and the promise of Spring and new life to come.
18/01/22
But the experience I had from there on was rooted in the calming rumble of ‘life’ happening around me and the noise of the world just passing by.
18/01/22
A grey dawn but with good views to Grimsby’s Tower and The Wolds to the west. I was intrigued by the graffiti along the River Hull and on hoardings.

It is very good. I enjoyed it. It was very amazing. I found it fantastic.
14/01/22
A foggy, dismal Sunday with only the seagulls around for much of the time. Amazing to look down at Queen’s Gardens (couldn’t see much further!) and think of the ships sailing into there.
14/01/22
I found myself thinking about how little people seem to notice the world around them (including myself!).
14/01/22
Mist/fog made views very restricted which I found funny/disappointing but overall was interesting experience.
14/01/22
A misty Friday sunset for my Vigil. The city slowly started to rest and the birds flew in groups high up in the sky.
14/01/22
Very misty morning which never lifted in the east. A peaceful hour away from the stresses of life.
14/01/22
The sunset was amazing, best I have ever seen. What a fabulous experience. Thank you for letting me be part of the Vigil. The hour passed so quick.
14/01/22
The morning started misty/foggy as I looked out over the West of the City. About 10 minutes into the Vigil I moved across to the East where the sun was rising.
14/01/22
I feel blessed to have seen the sunset. My main focus was on the West of the city. That’s where the sun was and it is also the side from which I hail.

Loved watching all the people walking about and such a good view of my City of Hull. Also, thanks to William Wilberforce for keeping me company.
