The slow, undulating clouds which makes this vigil a moving work of art, depicting fish, star whales, mountains and trees all shot through with a gilding of gold and pink as SOL started to rise.

Today is my birthday. I was rewarded for my hour in the box by a beautiful sundog.

I came to the vigil to enjoy the view over the city. We so rarely get a chance to view Hull from above but going up to a rooftop bar or a viewpoint is one of the first things I do in any city I visit.

What a beautiful night. Very clear sky, still no wind. The Humber was very calm. I walked in to start my vigil and was suddenly very emotional.
20/06/21
After the initial excitement and exhilaration my mind calmed and was able to take in everything in greater detail.

Watching the rainbow fade over the River Hull and the P & O Ferry depart out along the Humber to Rotterdam, I felt this was a fitting farewell to my life in the city of Hull.
20/06/21
Witnessed a great sunrise over Hull, an area I have lived in for over 70 years.

You forget how beautiful a view you can get when you are so high above everything and how far you can see.
20/06/21
The sun rose invisibly, behind cloud. A touch of pink cloud heralded its arrival – and then I found myself saying out loud, ‘There you are’ as the pale disc slid above the clouds and highlighted wet roofs and pools of water.
20/06/21
The first thing that struck me is that it is so unusual to be above the birds, watching the seagulls flying to and fro.
20/06/21
Well, that was something. A lot to process. I feel as though I’ve just been part of something special . .
20/06/21
It started off light and clear with a huge ominous dark cloud lurking in the distance.

The more I learnt about the project the more fond of it I became and now, having had the privilege to take part, I definitely have no regrets.
20/06/21
Wow! Just wow. Who knew one hour could go so fast? I couldn’t decide what to watch first.
20/06/21
A privilege to be able to watch over the city waking up. It was busier than I expected and plenty of things to see.
20/06/21
I was so looking forward to this unique opportunity to appreciate the wonders of my home city and Hull did look amazing.
The view from the pod was overwhelming.
20/06/21
WOW! What a privilege to have been stood in that box and enjoy such a mesmerising sunset.

I wanted to do the Hull Vigil because it feels full of hope after what’s been a very difficult year – 15 months now – for all of us.
