Sunset 7 July 2021 - KATE CLARK
Well what can I say . . . ?
Coming into this I was worried about my thoughts running away with themselves.

What an incredible experience to watch the city wake up from stillness.
13/08/21
Since I heard about the Vigil I decided I have to take part to do it.
13/08/21
A dreary and wet start to this Tuesday. However, this didn’t dampen my vigil.
13/08/21
As I entered the hut the bells of the Minster were ringing and felt like an accompaniment to the start of the vigil.
13/08/21
As my wonderful Companion Janet pointed out, this dreary morning was darker than usual.

When you’re left alone in an observation booth, you’re also left alone with your thoughts as well as noticing small details within the landscape that catch your eye.

Having done the vigil, I think I am going to appreciate the city more. It was foggy to begin with but this soon cleared and the breath-taking views of the city emerged.

Loved watching over the City at sunset, quite peaceful tonight as most people were indoors watching the England match!
13/08/21
There’s something quite magical about seeing your city wake up and come alive. It’s also fascinating to experience the stillness and notice what you become fixated on.

Hull: a city connected. Connected by roads, pavements, ten foots, a river. Connected by its people: togetherness.
13/08/21
There was darkness. Not as dark as I imagined. Not ‘pitch black’ but a murky blue atmosphere.
13/08/21
Loved the contrast of the two views – city centre planning v industrial sprawl.
13/08/21
I began my vigil looking east, out across the smudgy grey brown city to a horizon filled with clouds.
07/08/21
I started my vigil towards the East, watching the Rotterdam Ferry sail past Paull Lighthouse before disappearing towards Spurn.
07/08/21
An hour of unique opportunity to be present with the city – skyline, visible nooks and crannies, familiar streets and city waking up.
07/08/21
‘Lonely northern daughter’ was Larkin’s description of Hull. And that’s what it felt like as the city awoke: lorries and cars first, then the odd cyclist, and even odder pedestrian – and then the first buses (!).
07/08/21
The Vigil has offered me a bird’s eye view of my hometown Hull which I have never seen before. Streaky pinks tinged with soft yellows, seagulls swooping below me.
07/08/21
What a blessing it is to be able to watch our city come to life. The sights, the smells, the sounds, sharing the sky with the birds.
