Sunset 18 October - Louisa Haynes

I watched and I waited

                    for the clouds to part

for the sun to break through . . . and it did.

I watched and I waited

                    for someone to look up

for someone to see . . . and they did.

I watched and I saw

the flashing lights of the stadium

                    the ambulance go past.

I watched and I saw

                    hoods up against the rain

the hurry at the end of the day.

As I watched I pondered . . . and I prayed . . .

                    I wondered . . . and I dreamed . . .

                    I thought . . .  and I paused.

As I watched the vigil continued

                    A presence

                    A solitary figure.

I watched, I experienced, one amongst many.

We watch together the city full of life.
