Sunset 9 December - Christine Smyth

I was born in Hull 65 years ago and spent the first 32½ years in East Hull and the last 32½ years in North Hull.  You would expect I would be able to recognise landmarks by now!  Trouble was, they weren’t always where I expected them to be . . . you don’t always notice the bends in the roads.  I could pinpoint the prison by its green, pointed roof, and also the University Library building so at least could get some bearing.  What I didn’t expect to see was the River Hull looking so insignificant.  I remember almost being late for work on numerous occasions in the 70s because one or both of the bridges ‘were up’ to let the river traffic through.  Looking at the Wilberforce statue, I did wonder if William was happy there, or wished to be back on his Monument Bridge.

A wonderful experience, thank you.
