Sunset 7 April - Emma Jenkinson
What a journey! I feel so privileged.
At first I felt uncomfortable stepping close to the window but by the end I was leaning up against it trying to see as far and wide as possible. It was so interesting, while waiting for the sun to make its appearance into the narrow window between cloud and the earth’s horizon, to notice all sorts of things – town planning, a sparsely populated Queen’s Park, none of the lampposts stood perfectly vertical, the last occupants exiting George Street car park before closing time, some people waving at me, how the K2 building might be about to spoil my view, what do I do if I witness a crime? The gulls – wow, how strong they are to soar against the winds that are battering this pod! I felt so lucky to see them in flight so close up. And then it happened – I was bathed in full sunlight. As the previous earthly views were cast into monochrome, the sky and the pod came alive with colour. The sunset itself changed from moment to moment, with each one reminiscent of a Sistine-esque fresco, biblical almost. I wish I could have photographed each change but I’m happy that I got to witness it. Thank you, Vigil. :)
