Sunrise 23 December - Pete Brookes

Notes on a Vigil:

Not what I expected for a sunrise, the clouds December grey lifted to light blue, not the flash of orange I had thought it might be.  The changes were subtle.

Everywhere seemed to be in a slightly different place to at street level, every so often another familiar building caught my eye.

Christmas may have been cancelled in East Hull, one lovely Christmas tree twinkles on Dock Office Row, nothing festive on that horizon.

Treated to Drypool Bridge opening, the pace of everything was slow but that gave chance to think and breathe.

I enjoyed spotting the new: a green grassed-over dock I’d never seen before, a restored railway carriage hidden behind a building.

Every Ford Fiesta looked like my wife’s; has she come to see me?  As time starts to run out, I realised she has and it was.  A throwback to not having instant confirmation of someone’s whereabouts.

Thanks for the opportunity to see the city from this vantage point and to take an hour to disconnect.  Dad would have liked this.
