Sunset 9 January - Sarah Beeton

Where to begin?  I looked out to the East over to the docks and the River Hull in front.  I wondered how it must have looked many years ago when the fishing industry was thriving.  The docks now much quieter but the wind turbine factory looking to the future.  I moved across and looked out to the West now.  I had often commented how London had such a mix of old and new buildings without ever considering my home town.  I stood now, high above, amazed at the sight of all those old buildings mixed with new and the cranes looking to create more.  How beautiful our City is and yet we seldom think or recognise this!  Over the River Humber stretches our famous Humber Bridge, the one sight that locals see and know they are ‘home’.  It was an honour and a privilege to be able to watch day turn in to night high above the skyline.  To stand behind Wilberforce and watch the lights start to come on on the buildings and the bridge.  I will never forget this peaceful, quiet hour spent one Sunday watching our beautiful City and wondering if anyone had noticed me high above them!  Time to reflect and to be thankful.  What a wonderful experience.
