Sunset 28 March - Mike Parker

Having just got off the train after a lovely weekend in Haworth (Bronte Country), I have certainly gone from Wuthering Heights to Withering Heights!

My initial reaction was just what a small, compact city, Hull actually is.  What can seem a never-ending journey along Beverley Road seems to be only a stone’s throw from this height.  This is especially noticeable in just how near the docks Hessle Road, and even Anlaby Road, actually are.  I could imagine witnessing the Blitz from a vantage point such as this, with the searchlights and barrage balloons filling the sky.  How brave (or foolhardy) must the Hull folk have been to remain in the city after the first night of bombing!

Having lived in the city all my life, I was surprised to pick out so many buildings which I was unable to recognise – Google maps here I come.

Certain buildings brought back happy memories of my youth.  None more so than the rooftop of the now sadly dilapidated Romeo and Juliet’s disco, to which I was a frequent visitor at the height of Saturday Night Fever.

A lovely sunset to cap off a fabulous experience, well worth the wait and a lovely way to celebrate my birthday.
