Sunset 18 February - Simon Lutkin

In the middle of a storm it was a privileged position to see the West battered by the winds and the East sheltered by the huge structure of the College.

In a city divided by a river we have East vs West, FC vs KR, opposing politics, different races, different attitudes, religions, beliefs and values.

But, we also have unity and community in moments when its needed.

Being out during a storm and observing a rare moment of quiet streets was a strange thing to see as everyone took shelter and looked out for one another.

It’s my hope that these moments of togetherness become less fleeting and, instead, the normal.

Strange how being by myself, cut off from the world highlighted the opposite.  How it’s only in times of trouble, grief, celebration or despair that we reach out of ourselves and see people, do the things we have been meaning to do and really engage with the world in a way we really would benefit from if we did it more often.

Thank you.
