Sunset 14 March - Kate Tindall

I was surprised by the things I saw and the things I didn’t see.

I thought that I would spend most time looking towards the sunset but for the first half hour I looked much more to the East.  I felt the East was much less familiar but also you could see the actual city, the houses and the streets whereas to the West, beyond the centre, you could mainly see trees.

It was also possible to see huge swathes of Northern Lincolnshire; a place which, growing up, I thought was a different country but here I could see it so clearly.

In the second half, however, as the sun set I spent most time looking West and only occasionally turned East.

At this time the surprise was to see how blue the sky was.  I was expecting the reds and oranges of sunset and there were patches of that but, surrounding them, a vivid blue.
