Sunset 1 January - Lee Beetham

What an amazing privilege on the first day of the new year to watch over the deserted streets of Hull because everyone was still recovering at home from the excesses of the parties the night before.

My motivation to come into the box was to overcome my fears of small spaces so it was much to my surprise to step into the spacious box that resembled a sauna more than the garden shed I was expecting.  My first action was to take baby steps to the window like the whole box was going to come crashing to the floor.

For an East Hull boy this is hard to write but I much preferred looking over the West of the city and the pockets of light shining through the clouds over the Humber.

My highlights were the silence, the emptying of my mind, no mobile phone and the amazing sunset in the last 10 minutes.  The sun dropped like an orange over Princes Quay and quickly disappeared to bring an end to an amazing experience.  What a great way to start a new year, a year filled with hope and optimism.  Bring on 2022.
