Sunrise 21 April - James English

The warmth and orange/yellow colours that began the sun’s rise were hypnotic and hard to look away.  What an amazing launch to the morning as industry starts from one shift to the next.  Heavy boats glide across the Humber in the east and make their way from the twinkling port out across the expanse.  Urban graffiti, early workers, hungry seabirds and the white noise of traffic accompanied my vigil.  As I kept watch then to the west: iconic phone boxes, wind turbines, hospital where my children were born and my house.  It was tranquil to see what is now my home.  As the remaining mist rolls out and the bright white sun heats my back, I return to my family with an hour’s self-reflection and calm.

Thank you.
