Sunrise 14 February - Rachael Mather

The ‘sunrise’ was more a sun emergence – but the sky and clouds changed from mucky grey to blue with pink flashes, yellow, orange and white – the view was spectacular – one I’ve never seen before and doubt I will again.  The wind was really blowing and making a sound and the river reflected the sky and the current was clearly visible – sitting and watching the sunrise it became apparent how important the river and the wind is for Hull and how this will be what defines the City in the years to come. Transport needs a radical overhaul – it clogs up the city’s arteries and requires urgent attention.  The birds – I only saw seagulls today – mostly swooped beneath me.  Sirens and flashing blue lights from a couple of ambulances remind me what a debt of gratitude we owe our NHS – over the last two years, Covid has brought this into sharp relief.

On St Valentine’s Day I reflected on the love I have for Hull and my partner, family and many friends.  A wonderful experience and self-love as a carer – a whole hour to myself – bliss!
