The opening of The Munich Vigil

From Munich to Hull!

On the 12 December 2020, despite restrictions, the ninth Vigil held it's opening ceremony for The Munich Vigil.

The Munich Vigil is taking place on the rooftop of the Philharmonic Hall at the Gasteig, Europe's largest cultural venue.

The venue owes its name to its location: on the »gachen Steig« (steep track), close to Munich’s city centre and visible from far and wide above the banks of the river Isar. A meeting place for artists and audiences, teachers and students, novices and experts, avid readers and bookworms. Since opening its doors in 1985, the Gasteig has grown into a hub of culture and creativity that is truly unique in Europe.

It is also the home of a number of Munich’s renowned cultural and educational institutions: the Munich Philharmonic, the Münchner Volkshochschule (Munich Community College), the Munich City Library under the auspices of the city’s Department of Arts and Culture, and the University of Music and Performing Arts (HMTM).

The Hull Vigil will overlap with the Munich Vigil, when it opens on 20 March 2021.
