Sunset 3 March - Becky Howes

Looking out over my city, I see the place I know.  But it is different.  I’m seeing rooftops, private spaces concealed from the ground.

What do I see?  Peace, Freedom, Progress, Change.  Bodies scurry or saunter.  Lights flicker on, in different colours.

What do I hear?  Traffic, a bird, squeaky wood under my feet.  Then the distant alarm from a building makes me disoriented.

I am happy but sad.  A solitary flag flutters in blue and yellow flashes.  We are a week into the Ukraine conflict.  My city is peace, freedom, progress and change.  Our skyline is quiet.  I imagine the skyline in the cities of Ukraine and the sounds, the explosions are a different light.  Our city was heavily bombed in the World War.  But today we are quiet and free.  I pray for Ukraine and us.
