Sunset 23 January - Louise Burnett

What a treat!  Thank you for allowing me to see the city like this.  All those things I’ve never seen or thought about before.  How diverse our buildings are – and how beautiful some are.  Where’s everyone going?  The constant hum of movement and the choreography.  People being watched – literally ‘looked over’.  What would Wilberforce think?  Am I seeing someone who will change people’s attitudes one day, like he did?  The weather was gloomy – no sun at all and the sky and the Humber were the same colour but it felt as though the city were cocooned in a grey blanket, separate and separated.

I thought about Hull through time, how people have coped with trials – civil war, air raids and now Covid.  The things you can’t really see but you know are there (the Minster, the Deep, the stadium, the hospital) but are so important to us – like love, kindness and friendship.

The question at the heart of all this – why did someone spray the German word for ‘cheese’ on the outside of the car park?
