Sunrise 9 January - Bob Milner

Frosty, slippy start and eager!  Pleasant, relaxed and informal, into the box. I was surprised, wood panelled, cosy, smaller than I thought but beautiful.

Sunrise, molten ball, the colours of the sky and cloud: pinks, blue, hints of yellow, orange, shimmering.  Not a solid ball, lava, globular, runny edged – a poached egg sun.  I smiled, I felt a weird stirring – not my first sunset, not even my first in Hull but this was special – focused, enclosed, framed.  All about you, sun.

Pooh stick boat from east window to west window, the vigil box acting as the bridge, when pooh stick boat disappears only to reappear.

Birds, drifting – people so far away, empty streets.  Boxes, concrete, tarmac; too much.  A model town built by an urban fan.  More green, please!

Lovely Humber Bridge, my daily commute.  And I could hear all the world beneath my feet.  Joy.  Hope.  SUNRISE!
