Sunrise 24 February - Rich Sutherland

The first thing that pops into my head as I enter the wooden box and gaze down upon the city is that it’s like a local version of Where’s Wally?.  I didn’t manage to find a man in red and white stripes but did spot two phone boxes, eight wind turbines and about ten thousand seagulls.

Over the next hour it’s the small details that catch my eye.  A man crosses the road and heads with determination to a bin to avoid littering.  A few council workers clad in orange clean up Queen’s Gardens.  A piece of graffiti along the riverbank reminds us that we’ve survived a global pandemic, as if we’ll ever forget.

My hour comes to an end and the Humber has gradually turned from a brooding indigo to a friendly rose gold and finally a light and lazy lilac.  Time to leave this peaceful wooden box and grab some breakfast.
