Sunrise 14 January - Ally Thomson

The day began with silhouettes and shadows.  It was a privilege to watch over the city which I feel has watched over me all my life.  The City is the people.

The sun rose and shared its glory.  For a few minutes all the windows were golden and I wondered about the people behind the windows who may have no idea of that golden blessing.  Then I realised I was probably behind a golden window and didn’t realise it.

The colours of indigo and silver on the Humber were beautiful, and made me thankful for family who arrived here by ship generations ago to settle here and raise families.

Seeing those beginning their day or perhaps finishing a night of work, all lit by the day’s new but familiar light, made me know where I belong.  The City is a family and is loved.
