Sunrise 11 March - Chloe Birr-Pixton

This was an incredible experience and a privilege to watch over the city as it wakes up.  Viewing the humdrum and the unique moments of a city dawn is something I will never forget.  I was amazed at how swiftly the sun made its entrance; it was like watching an action film where you couldn’t take your eyes off the screen.  Every second brought a new colour and the interplay between the sun and clouds meant a constantly changing landscape.  I spent most of my hour looking East for that very reason, until the sun rose to such a height and intensity that it almost obliterated the Eastern vista and instead lit up the West, giving the spring buds on the trees in Queen’s Gardens that bright, electric green effect that only lasts a week or so before they burst into leaf.  I love this city that I’ve made my home for the last 30 years.

What an amazing start to my 49th year and this is a birthday I will never forget.  Thank you.
