Sunrise 1 January - Rick Welton

For the first forty-five minutes the sky was grey and cloudy with thin shafts of light slowly appearing, pink over the ripples of the Humber.  But then the clouds lifted and glorious silver spread across the city.  The dark buildings glittered, the trees seemed to come to life, the seabirds’ wings sliced the sunshine.  I wasn’t expecting a New Year epiphany but this was something close.  Hull, bathed in sunlight, my home, our home.  My resolution for Hull, for 2022?  Let’s have an even greener city, a fairer city and a more equal city for everyone.  Thank you Freedom Festival, thank you Hull.
