Sunset 25 November - Adam Hemingway

I first came to Hull in 2012 having never visited before.  Born in the Midlands, I travelled and moved around the country but have always considered myself a Yorkshireman as my parents and many of my relatives grew up in Leeds.  Standing up in that box looking over Hull with nothing but the view to occupy my mind was a very positive experience for me to really see the City that I have chosen to call my home.  Having met my wife here and had our wedding reception just on the marina and in view from the west side of the box, that is where I found myself keeping watch.  A little apprehensive to stand at the window at first as it was in the part of the box overhanging the college building, I soon found myself with my nose almost up to the glass just so I could take in as much of the view as possible.  Perhaps it was no coincidence that the viewing point and direction of view was at the same height and direction as William Wilberforce is looking, keeping watch over the City.  I wondered how much he has seen it change.  In my short time in Hull I have seen it transform but I imagine it has really changed since his time.  As the sun went down I realised that I had seen very few birds in the sky during my time in the box but as the sun touched the horizon they all seemed to fly around the box and toward the sun – I don’t blame them for chasing the view!

A really thought-provoking and inspiring experience.  Thank you for making this possible!
