Sunrise 6 February - David Webb

So, when I went in to the box, looking at the views.  Actually, on the one side, the view out of that.  Started to see the ferry floating on the water coming in, trying to dock – I watched that.  And then you could see the city all around it.  You could see everything moving with all the lights.  It was almost like Christmas Day there was so many lights.  But it was very, very peaceful.  There wasn’t any traffic, no people around, only the birds swooping gently on the breeze just taking in the thermals.  Saw something in the window.  Think it might have been a bit difficult to manage because of the wind today so I felt a bit sorry for that but it was wow!

Then I turned round and walked to the other side, on the west side looking out over that way.  It was still quite dark to start with but it was interesting to see that there was no movement anywhere and then I went back to the east side again seeing more and more buildings, more and more details then the lights slowly going out as it was getting lighter and lighter in the sky.  You could see further and further.  See the fishing poles on the trawlers and that kind of thing.  The mosque area over there as well.

It was still quite cloudy and grey and heavy.  It wasn’t really very bright and then things started to get busier more and more traffic and then saw the bus – one of the Yorkshire buses.  I think that was about ten to eight in the morning, something like that, so people getting out of the bus.  That was maybe like the first people I’d seen which I thought was really interesting and then the ship was still docking, watching it go by the bridge and then came back to the west side and again I could see more and more and more.  Like more clearly as the day became more.  More buildings.  You could see further as well and then beyond – fields and then at Swanland you could see in the distance.  Looking over to my right I wasn’t sure where I could see.  I could see Beverley Minster in the very far distance, small in the view but then on the left you could see the Humber Bridge.  Beautiful.  It’s very well-known so I really recognised that.  But wow!  That’s fantastic.

In my mind lots of thoughts going on.  In my mind it’s normally really busy going at a hundred miles an hour but just to stand and watch was really peaceful.  Just seeing what people do on a Sunday morning first thing.  You know, there’s no traffic.  Where are people going though on this day?  What are they doing?  Are they going for pleasure?  Are they going for work?  Maybe they’re meeting family or a day out.  Maybe even flying out on holiday.  Just, I was thinking about myself, through the weeks, my work days, evenings, that kind of thing and then just to take time to stop.  Really worth it.  It’s been a really worthwhile visit.  Thank you so much for having me.
